Unilever’s toilet hygiene expert Domex announced its partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with the goal of providing access to usable, clean and safe toilets for 7 million Filipino school children by 2021. The event, held at Lakandula High School, was graced by school division heads, staff, students and their parents.

The program formed part of the Domex #TogetherWeAreUnstoppable campaign, which aims to rally the nation to help win the war on poor sanitation in schools. As well as part of DepEd’s many efforts to improve school sanitation conditions through their Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program (DepEd WinS).

Schools are a high priority for Domex. The lack of access to usable, clean and safe toilets seriously impacts the health, comfort, and learning ability of students. 84% of school teachers and school nurses say toilet-related health issues greatly increase the number of sick days students take, which could also impact their learning.

“Domex believes a clean and safe school toilet is a right, not a privilege,” said Vanessa Ong, Marketing Director for Unilever Home Care. “Currently, 1 in 2 schools in the Philippines still do not follow national guidelines on sanitation. Through this landmark partnership, we join forces to achieve clean, safe, usable toilets for every Filipino child.”

Domex together with DepEd and GIZ reinforced their commitment to the DepEd WinS program. This program provides practical guidance on what schools must do to achieve usable, clean, and safe toilets. Domex will continue to contribute by providing the right support and training for janitors, school staff, and students to encourage schools to adopt healthy school hygiene practices.

Domex also launched the inaugural Eskwelang Unstoppable Awards, an initiative to accelerate progress toward reaching national sanitation standards. Schools and division offices are encouraged and rewarded for adopting the DepEd WinS program, making stepwise improvements in school sanitation. The award aims to promote good hygiene and sanitation habits by reinforcing the importance of maintaining usable, clean and safe toilets in schools across the Philippines.

“Through the Eskwelang Unstoppable Award we hope to recognize and reward schools that have greatly improved toilet sanitation conditions for their students and staff,” continued Ong. “We believe that keeping toilets clean and safe is a shared responsibility and want to rally everyone – from partners and parents, to janitors, staff and students – to join the movement and put an end to poor sanitation.”

The Eskwelang Unstoppable Awards will culminate during World Toilet Day on November 19, 2020. The award will recognise the Best School Division, as well as the Most Improved Schools from the winning division based on WinS star ratings.

World Toilet Day 2015: Domex Supports Proper Toilet Sanitation for a Germ-Free Home

#1MCLEANTOILETS Thursday, November 12, 2015

A study by World Health Organization shows that children around the world miss an estimated 443 million school days each year because of diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene practices, including using unsanitary toilets. This staggering number only means that this number of school days is equivalent to all grade school and high school classrooms in the Philippines being empty for one month. This sanitation-related concern hinders the children’s learning and significantly reduces their quality of life.

Some of the illnesses due to poor toilet sanitation include diarrhoeal disease and parasitic worm infections which can lead to nutritional deficiencies, physical and mental stunting, and death. Every day, millions of children in rural communities and urban households nationwide are exposed to these health problems by using dirty toilets populated by disease-carrying germs.

According to Dr. Luisa Efren of the Philippine Public Health Association (PPHA), the simple act of proper toilet sanitation can help prevent the spread of these germs. However, children continue to be at risk from these deadly diseases because many households still use ordinary laundry bleach to clean their toilet bowls, which is not enough to kill all toilet germs.

“A toilet that looks clean to the naked eye may not necessarily be free from germs and bacteria. So, it is very important to properly sanitize all surfaces using a germ-kill expert with proven efficacy in eliminating bacteria, and not just any ordinary laundry bleach,”

Dr. Efren warned.

For the past three years, Unilever Philippines through its germ-kill expert brand Domex, has been working with UNICEF and PPHA to champion the One Million Clean Toilets Movement. This advocacy program aims to educate Filipinos on proper toilet hygiene and the need for sanitized household toilets to keep their families safe

against disease-causing germs.

On November 13, World Toilet Day, join the One Million Clean Toilets Movement in the fight against disease causing germs to save lives, one clean toilet at a time. To learn more about Domex and how you can stay safe from disease with a germ-free home, visit

Domex celebrates World Toilet Day with over 1M pledges for clean toilets

1 Million pledges for Clean Toilets Monday, November 24, 2014

Unilever Philippines, through its leading toilet-cleaner brand Domex, and its partners, celebrated World Toilet Day 2014 at the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila by announcing the success of their One Million Clean Toilets Movement.

Some of their respected guests were Vice Mayor of Manila Mr. Isko Moreno, Tin Tin Bersola Babao & Barbie Almalbis. Delamar hosted the said event.

Observed annually on November 19, World Toilet Day aims to put a spotlight on the 2,5 billion people across the globe who do not have access to clean, functional toilets. Of these, almost half—1.1 billion people—practice open defecation and are exposed to infectious diseases brought about by poor toilet sanitation.

Along with its partners—the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), Philippine Public Health Administration (PPHA), city government of Manila, and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation—Unilever revealed that the One Million Clean Toilets Movement has garnered a total of 1,274,038 pledges nationwide, exceeding its target set a year ago.

In November 2013, the movement was launched to advocate disease prevention through improved toilet sanitation. By pledging support for the movement via social media and on-ground activities, homeowners agreed to conscientiously maintain their own clean, safe, and hygienic bathrooms. For every pledge received, Domex donated P5 to UNICEF's Sanitation Program, a global fund aimed towards improving access to basic sanitation in deprived areas around the world, including the Philippines.

"We are thankful that more than one million people became part of our proper toilet sanitation advocacy. They not only pledged to keep their household toilets clean, but they also helped Unilever and UNICEF provide clean toilet facilities to communities which need it most," said Chito Macapagal, Unilever VP for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.

Toilet sanitation: Reach more to teaching more

Building on the success of the One Million Clean Toilets Movement, Unilever and its partners have also announced the second phase of this advocacy. In 2015, they will be teaching effective household toilet sanitation to another one million people in over 2,000 barangays nationwide.

"In line with the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan which aims to improve the health and well-being of more than one billion people worldwide, Unilever Philippines wiH embark on a nationwide campaign for proper toilet hygiene in barangays, where intervention will have more impact on peoples' lives, especially those of children," said Dennis Chua, Domex brand manager.

Start beautiful and healthy beginnings with Avida, Domex and Cif

Avida Tuesday, August 05, 2014

Finite land resources in the metro have led to more and more Filipinos switching to living high above the cities. The growing demand for dynamic urban environments, wherein the comforts of security, proximity to the conveniences of the city, and refreshing atmospheres reminiscent of hotels meet, made vertical living an ideal choice for life starters and most urban dwellers.

The popularity of vertical living has paved the way for a booming property industry, giving rise to numerous condominiums that offer the same comforts. But whether you live in a condo or house and lot, the importance of maintaining a clean home for a healthy family is of utmost importance to Avida.

“We in Avida believe that cleanliness is crucial to those seeking to set off to a great start with their new beginnings in life, largely due to our belief that starting out in a clean home will create healthy and happy families,” said Tess Tatco, Head of Avida Corporate Marketing.

“Unilever Homecare is pleased to partner with Avida in its endeavor because we believe in making life’s new beginnings healthy and clean especially when it concerns families and communities,” said Dennis Chua, Domex and Cif brand manager.

Avida and Unilever’s globally trusted home cleaners DOMEX and CIF share this cause, and are working hand-in-hand to promote healthy living and proper hygiene among Avida homeowners by raising awareness on the use of household cleaning products and encourage developing a habit of keeping homes clean within Avida communities.

Both are promoting healthy living through programs on proper cleaning and sanitation. In partnership with the communities’ respective homeowners associations/Condo Corp. and Avida Customer Care Unit headed by Nancy Delegencia, Unilever will conduct a series of educational talks that will initially benefit more than 6,000 Avida homeowners in Bonifacio Global City, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Cavite, NUVALI.

A cleaning caddy containing a range of Unilever’s household care products such as Domex multipurpose cleaner, Domex toilet bowl cleaner, and everyday household cleaning product. Cif will also be given out to new condominium and house and lot homeowners upon the turnover of their units.

The use of right cleaning products complements Avida promoting healthy living through proper ventilation, free-flowing air and sunlight present in all Avida units. Avida and Unilever thru Domex and Cif are together in this venture for clean and healthy homes, for happier families and better communities.

This partnership is aligned with the Domex 1 Million Clean Toilets campaign, which aims to raise awareness on proper toilet sanitation and provide access to basic sanitation for the less fortunate. This falls under the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan that aims to help improve the health and well-being of more than a billion people. This is in an effort to possibly see a reduction in the number of cases of diarrhea, reported to be the second leading cause of death among children below 5 years old in the Philippines.

So far, the movement has been continuously receiving pledges and it hopes to achieve one million clean toilets, in time for World Toilet Day in November.

Everyone is encouraged to join by signing up for the 1 Million Clean Toilets campaign. Simply visit www.facebook.com/DomexPhilippines, like the page, and pledge by clicking the “One Million Clean Toilets” app or “Pledge Here” button.
