How to handle stress when you are a Teacher

Many are called to the teaching profession as a calling and a sign that this it what they are called to do. Being a teacher is simply not just an obligation to teach those who are yearning to learn but also a chance to live a dream and be a role model to a lot of people. 

But being a teacher, in all its glory, even if you are wearing your best smile and your favorite teacher clothes, it can also be very stressful. Stress is unavoidable. Of course, students tend to be more stressed because of learning and other deadline they need to meet but teachers are overlooked most of the time. 

Most of the time, teachers must adjust to curriculum changes. Not to mention, the added stress of distance learning: getting students to sign in, stay engaged and on-task, and turn in their assignments...or having to develop different types of curriculum for both in-person and online students. 

Like other work, it can be really stressful! So here are some tips to manage your stress:

  • Assess your stress - When you are feeling overwhelmed with so many things to do and stress is building up, start by knowing what causes this stress to build up. If you feel like deadline is coming yet you need more time to finish it then manage your schedule. Take it one step at a time.
  • Wear something Vibrant - Wear something that will push your energy and make you feel cheerful and lively. Whether it's teacher dresses or something colorful, just wear it so that it can boost your feelings and forget your worries. Start your day by looking at the mirror and smiling to yourself. 
  • Make a list & Schedule your Time - Focus on what you need to finish and work on that schedule. Don't make yourself available to all chores and people. You can always say NO to things you can't do anymore. Make sure to prioritize what is needed to be done first then go to the next on your list.

Go to the beach, go camping or visit your family. Go hangout at the bar with friends and stay up all night and best of all, find quality time to love yourself and enjoy time.   • Prioritize your Health - Take care of yourself by doing daily exercises and manage a balance diet. Make sure to get enough sleep so that you are more alert and focussed. Spend more time with your family and friends so that you can have more time to bond and talk about life, work and other ordeals you are going through. Let them know you appreciate their presence even the smallest things that they gave you, a teacher shirts or a keychain. Happiness is also a key for a stress free life  
Stress is a part of any profession, but how you manage your stress will define you as a teacher and as an individual. If you manage to ease your way out of it then you will also be an effective teacher all throughout. Always know that there are people who can help you and know that you are not alone.
