#LIGTASDITO: Nurturing Safe Space for Filipinos, by and with the Filipinos

October is World Mental Health Month. It’s a special time to put mental health in the spotlight and teach people to be more kind and compassionate. It also aims to spread hope
by empowering people to take action and be a beacon of change for their community.

Our mental wellbeing is highly dependent on access to supportive communities where we can describe our experiences, express our thoughts and emotions, and seek help when we
most need it. Without supportive communities, we are less likely to find or seek support forour mental health, and to care for our overall well-being. Without a sense of belonging to a community, we can feel isolated, and experience loneliness. Without safe communities, we lose avenues to safely express ourselves, and process our experiences.

A mentally healthy community is possible if we, as individuals, are capacitated with the skills to nurture safe spaces, and empowered to maintain them. In this light, #MentalHealthPH, in partnership with the National Center for Mental Health presents #LigtasDito: Nurturing SafeSpace for Filipinos, by Filipinos.

#LigtasDito is a one-day, onground program featuring talks and workshops, to nurture safe
spaces for Filipinos. Its goals are as follows:
1. To promote the importance and impact of accessible safe spaces
2. To strengthen individual capacity in nurturing and establishing safe spaces;
3. To provide a safe space where mental health volunteers and sector advocates can meet
together and collaborate interventions to maintain, nurture, and establish safe spaces.
