Sofia Gonzalez Romualdez steps into the spotlight with new single Thinkin' of U

Whether we admit or not, it has become a trend and an unintentional culture in showbiz, that the children of the first-generation movie and television icons take the opportunity to enter the limelight. Many of the celebrity children who made most out of their inborn fame have sharpened their skills in the world of modeling, acting or singing.

Armed with good genes and a healthy network, many actors break through under their parent’s names but others try their own luck by creating their own image. This is the main goal of Sofia Gonzalez Romualdez who wishes to hone her talent in singing and be known because of her passion in music.

Tacloban City Mayor Cristina "Kring Kring" Gonzalez-Romualdez in full support to her daughter Sofia at the media launch

Parents of Sofia were both present during the launch of Sofia's second single Thinkin' of U, former Mayor Alfred Romualdez and incumbent Mayor of Tacloban Ms. Crtistina Gonzalez Romualdez shared a sweet message to their daughter.

Growing up with musically inclined roots, 18 year old Sofia Gonzalez Romualdez follows the footsteps of her family as she steps into the spotlight in the music industry. She has been a Viva Records recording artist for over 2 years, debuting with her single "Pikit Mata" which is included in the Julian Trono and Ella Cruz movie "FanGirl FanBoy". Now, long after her debut, she comes back with a new sound in "Thinkin' of U".

Passionate about music since she was little, Sofia has ventured out the music industry at a young age. "Music was always in me, there was never really a time where it wasn't my passion. I never really saw myself doing anything else besides music growing up."

At a young age, she tried her hand at song writing, inspired by her musical influences.
Young as she is, she has quite a list of achievements in terms of music. With passion as her stronghold, she aims to be a unique artist in the industry, "I don't really write to sell, it defeats the purpose of being an artist. Being yourself is the key. It's better to sound weird than to sound like other artist in the market. We shouldn't be afraid to express ourselves, that's the point of being an artist after all." Sofia also shared that she would love to have a collaboration with her favorite singers like Sarah Geronimo and KZ Tandingan.

Sofia's father also shared an inspiring story about Sofia back when they experienced one of the most traumatic calamity that hit the country, when typhoon Ondoy hit Leyte specifically Tacloban. He shared that “When Yolanda hit us in Tacloban, Cristina, my wife, together with Sofia and Diana [Romualdez], were in the house. Suddenly, the water came in and it was about 17 feet high. Cristina and Diana, my youngest daughter, they were able to climbed up the ceiling, the water was so strong that Sofia got swept away, for about a hundred feet away. We were very lucky, she was very lucky that there was a post and she was able to grab it, and hanging on to that post, she was fighting for her life for almost two hours,”  He added that Music has been Sofia's therapy to overcome the traumatic experience they had during those times and up until now, music still gives them courage to fight and inspire others.

Sofia Romualdez sung a couple of songs during her media launch. Unlike any other singers, Soafia has that distinct voice that can hit the right notes.

Sofia even did her own cover of Dua Lipa's New Rules and it was perfect.

Sofia has martured as a recording artist in the short span of time she's been with the recording label. She self-penned her latest single that perfectly showcases her talent and amazing vocals in the foreign sounding pop-jazz-r&b piece.
