Quim's Cake Bakeshop & Cafe became totally famous when Chef Jack Labang, one of the resident chef/co-owner declared that they'll give away cakes worth P5 million if Rodrigo Duterte wins the presidency. A day after the elections, with Duterte leading the unofficially tally by a wide margin, Chef Jack Labang announced that the free cakes will be distributed starting July 1.
Thankfully, I was invited at the most awaited event and we also got the chance to take a tour at the bakeshop and check out their menu as well.
Quim's Cake Bakeshop & Cafe offers a homey ambiance. They have two floors to offer for their customers. They offer wide range of pastries, cakes and even all day breakfast meals, pasta and more.

Mango Loco
Here's the very first claimant of the free cake at Quim's Cake Bakeshop & Cafe with International Pastry Chef Eliaquim Labang or better known as Chef Jack Labang. We got the chance to interview him and according to him, he learned so many things about this experience and of course the first one is to "think before you click". Even though we all got carried away with our emotions no matter what the topic might be, we should think first before posting anything online.
There might be some advantages of this experience, one is Instant fame. More people got curious about the free 5 million cakes and the result was overwhelming, their official facebook page instantly got thousands of likes and moreover their customers tripled. The disadvantage was there were a lot of bashing online and it even came to the point that some would drop by at their store and reprimand them for such actions.
All in all, this was an experience and an eye opener for the owners of Quim's.
Chef Jack specializes on baking cakes and pastries. The demands for their cakes are astounding according to him and he makes it a point that what they offer are something that is worth it and really delicious. He always go out of the country to check out what's the latest when it comes to baking and cakes.
According to Sir Anthony, one of the owners of Quim's, they're planning for expansion soon and they're also open for franchise. That day, some of President Duterte's staff came over to meet them and they'll be sending cakes to the President any day soon as a peace offering and a salute to the new President as well.
To avoid long lines and other bothers for the much awaited free cake, Chef Labang devised a schedule for efficient distribution. The cakes will be given away every 1st and 15th of every month (until they reach the P5 million target) to the first 50 customers who register via email (quimscake@yahoo.com).
However, on their first day of giving away the sweet treats, a few slices went unclaimed. Determined not to let it go to waste, Labang shared the cakes with street kids. They also mentioned that they have been doing charity works as well like giving cakes in the neighborhood and other institutions.

My ultimate favorite is the Sashimi Mango Sinigang, it's unique and it tasted just like how our Grand Mother or Mom would cook it! I also enjoyed the roast belly with the choco bagoong sauce, it's a must try. Now that the rainy season has started, it's always nice to enjoy good food in a homey ambiance location and Quim's Cake Bakeshop and Cafe is the place to be. They also offer catering services.
