In keeping with its mission to promote sustainability, leading condiments manufacturer and distributor NutriAsia partnered with Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX) for its Datu Puti brand to achieve plastic neutrality.

In a virtual press conference held on 4 October 2021, Datu Puti announced that it has achieved a plastic neutrality certification from PCX. The move to make the entire Datu Puti product line plastic neutral is not only critical for reducing the impact plastic has on the environment, it also allows the iconic brand the opportunity to inspire Filipinos to make more sustainable lifestyle choices through the products they support. “Datu Puti has been a part of many Filipinos’ lives for decades, which is why it was best to start with it as a pioneer brand in sustainability. This puts Datu Puti in a prime position of being a catalyst and a leader of positive change toward a more sustainable world, helping fellow Filipinos adopt a more environment-friendly lifestyle through the products we offer,” said Mario Mendoza, NutriAsia’s Broad Culinary Marketing Group head.

Achieving plastic neutrality entails calculating the plastic usage in Datu Puti’s bottles, bottle caps, cap seals, and stand-up pouches, then through PCX, diverting the equivalent amount of post-consumer plastic from nature. The collected plastic is transformed into an alternative source of energy for creating cement and other products. This provides a more sustainable way of managing plastic waste. “The problem of plastic waste is a concern that we simply cannot take on alone. We congratulate NutriAsia on their important decision and milestone of achieving plastic neutrality with Datu Puti, and we at PCX are happy that the company has chosen to partner with us and take up this noble advocacy,” said Nanette Medved-Po, founder of PCX.

NutriAsia’s efforts to achieve plastic neutrality through Datu Puti amplify the company’s drive for sustainability. Since 2014, the company has been active in sustainability projects like Datu Puti’s Jumbohalang Tambalan, Refill Revolution in partnership with DENR, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bote), the  NutriAsia EcoStation, and Select & Collect. “Systemic and meaningful change often happens as a result of independent and collective actions toward the same goal and direction. NutriAsia’s drives for sustainability and our new partnership with PCX is a testament to our commitment to making the lives of Filipinos even more Masarap and Masaya, both in and outside the kitchen,” said Angie Flaminiano, President and COO of NutriAsia.

Beyond flavouring every Filipino’s dishes with deliciousness, NutriAsia wants to ensure a better and greener world that future generations of Filipinos can savor. As such, the company will remain a committed partner in nation-building efforts towards a more sustainable Philippines.

Medical Center all enjoyed Locally’s immune-boosting Pomelo, Mango, and Tamarind natural juices, which are sourced locally from Filipino farmers.

This follows Locally’s earlier donation of drinks to The Medical City in Ortigas, Pasig earlier this month.

“We continue our commitment to making sure even more of our brave and dedicated frontliners are fully protected against COVID-19 through delicious Locally juice drinks that also boost their immunity and natural defenses with Vitamin C,” said Gretchen King, Category Manager for Beverages at NutriAsia.

The fight against the Covid-19 virus isn’t over. With the invisible enemy still out there, it is still best to arm ourselves with the immunity boost that vitamin C provides. Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Locally has handed out immuno-boosting juices to various frontliners like medical personnel, local government units, mobile markets, military staff, mobile kitchens, and many more. Together, we can all help each other out in healing and rebuilding our nation.

This was done through the Share-a-Chair initiative, a program started by NutriAsia and Del Monte in which the companies collect single-use plastic waste from its different offices and plant sites to turn them into school chairs and other needed furniture for underprivileged public schools and communities. It is the culmination of the two companies’ partnership forged to help the Department of Education address the perennial shortage of school chairs.

NutriAsia and Del Monte collected 19.3 metric tons of plastic waste from their offices and plants for a period of six months. Part of this collection went to the Share-a-Chair donation of 600 school chairs and teachers’ tables distributed to 12 different partner schools in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, and Davao that NutriAsia and Del Monte have chosen for the program.

NutriAsia and Del Monte then partnered with Envirotech Waste Recycling, Inc., a local company with ground-breaking technology to upcycle the collected plastic waste into the furnishings. Upcycling is the process of transforming waste and discarded materials into useable items which is Envirotech’s field of expertise.

Through the Share-a-Chair program and their spirit of resourcefulness, NutriAsia and Del Monte aim to continue upcycling plastic waste and creating more school chairs to be donated to various partner schools across the country. This way, the companies can fulfill their goals of assisting underprivileged Filipino communities and reducing the negative environmental impact of plastic.

They all enjoyed Locally’s immune-boosting Pomelo, Mango, and Tamarind natural juices, sourced locally from Filipino farmers. The drinks go a long way in helping the Medical City frontliners stay hydrated, energized, and protected from disease and sickness with natural vitamin C.

“We are very grateful for the drinks we’ve received from NutriAsia and Locally,” said Gabriel del Mundo, Head of Relations Management at The Medical City.

“We are really happy to do our part to help our hardworking and dedicated frontliners by providing them with delicious Locally refreshments that boost their energy and immunity,” said Gretchen King, Category Manager for Beverages at NutriAsia. “This way, we also continue to support our local farm industry which provides the fruits that we use to create our drinks. We are committed to supporting each other through the challenges of this pandemic.”

Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, Locally has handed out and continues to hand out more than 100,000 immunity and energy boosting natural fruit juices to about 105,000 medical personnel, local government units, mobile markets, military staff, mobile kitchens, and more. They are slated to deliver more Locally juices to other hospitals for a delicious immunity boost for frontliners.

You too can build the body’s own defenses by taking local vitamin-rich natural fruit ingredients in juice form through Locally.

The company won three Excellence Awards and one Merit Award in the online ceremony last March 25 by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.

NutriAsia’s Excellence Awards went to the Locally Superfruits and Locally #ImmUNITY campaigns, as well as the Bring Your Own Bote (BYOB) Zero-Waste initiative.

Locally Superfruits introduced locally sourced nutrient-dense and vitamin-filled fruit juices such as Mangosteen, Passion Fruit, and Dragon Fruit to the Filipino consumer base. Meanwhile, the #ImmUNITY campaign also promoted the personal and economic benefits of locally produced fruit juices. The two-pronged campaign successfully communicated the health benefits of drinking fruit juice while supporting the livelihood of local fruit farmers and communities, both especially relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BYOB campaign won the Excellence Award in the Corporate Social Responsibility category for allowing consumers to contribute to a zero waste system. Through the BYOB stores established in strategic areas in Metro Manila, people were able to purchase condiments and cooking oil by refilling reusable containers, reducing the amount of plastic waste generated.

NutriAsia also scored a Merit Award for the Boomer vs. Zoomer Mother’s Day campaign. One of the first advertising videos planned and executed remotely due to the 2020 Metro Manila ECQ quarantine restrictions, it paid tribute to both mothers and Filipino frontliners in a crucial and extraordinary time of the pandemic.

These achievements are a testament to NutriAsia’s vision of continuously creating and enhancing Masarap, Masaya moments for their customers, as they gear up to deliver even more  ground breaking campaigns that resonate with the Filipino market and beyond in the days to come.

“A staple on every Filipino table, NutriAsia and its brands are wholeheartedly committed to aid our national government in its pursuit to fight COVID-19 and its effects. We are choosing to proactively be part of the solution to end the worst public health crisis in a century with the decision to give our employees and three of their qualified dependents the option to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus,” says Joselito Campos, Jr., Chairman of NutriAsia.“

"Knowing that family is at the heart of any person, we feel that extending the vaccination option to our employees’ dependents will give our people peace of mind with the assurance of their loved ones’ health and safety.  This is important as our employees continue to help rebuild the economy through invaluable frontline work at NutriAsia by providing basic food products for their countrymen.”

Guided by Filipino values that have shaped how the company has moved forward, NutriAsia will continue to agilely respond to the changing nature of the pandemic, as it remains a steadfast partner of Filipino homes all over the world in looking forward to better, brighter days ahead.

On January 24, the brand hosted a large-scale online meeting via Zoom, dubbed as the Datu Puti Mukhasim Nation World Record Day, where nearly 200 “Ka-Datus” joined the attempt to set a new Guinness World Records™ title. Hosted by Sam YG, the official title attempt was led by Datu Puti’s celebrity Sukambassadors Tita Krissy Achino, Eric “Eruption” Tai, and Maymay Entrata.

Participants were divided into six Tribo Breakout Rooms, namely Tribo Sukang Puti facilitated by JC Tevez, Tribo Sukang Sinamak with Maymay Entrata and Cara Eriguel, Tribo Pinoy Spice headed by Eric “Eruption” Tai, Tribo Sukang Tagalog with Tita Krissy Achino, Tribo Sukang Iloko with Show Suzuki, and Tribo Spiced Vinegar led by Nikki Viola.

The breakout rooms ensured that Guinness World Records™ official adjudicator Brian Sobel, who joined the call all the way from Australia, and six other independent witnesses were able to monitor and check if all the guidelines of the attempt were followed.

At the sound of the Sawsaw Signal, all Ka-Datus and Sukambassadors simultaneously showed their best “Sawsaw-Tikim-Mukhasim” move on camera. Participants simultaneously dipped their choice of food into their favorite Datu Puti Vinegar before tasting its naturally fermented goodness that brings out the best Mukhasim reaction.

As the undisputed leading vinegar brand in the country since 1975, Datu Puti has consistently provided a satisfying nuot-asim sarap that makes great-tasting dishes a lot more enjoyable. Also known as the pambansang suka, Datu Puti now comes in five distinctly Filipino flavors that celebrate the diversity of our cuisine and culture: Datu Puti Sukang Sinamak, Datu Puti Sukang Iloko, Datu Puti Sukang Tagalog, Datu Puti Pinoy Spice, and the classic Datu Puti White Vinegar.

Guinness World Records™ adjudicator Brian Sobel congratulated all Ka-Datus for participating in the historic event, which was also witnessed live by thousands of viewers through the Datu Puti Facebook Page.

“After a thorough review of all the footage from the Datu Puti Mukhasim Nation World Record Day, which took place on January 24, I am very happy and proud to announce that you have managed to set a new Guinness World Records™ title of the most people dipping food into vinegar online simultaneously. I congratulate Datu Puti and all the Ka-Datus for this ‘officially amazing’ feat. I hope that this new record will not only make Datu Puti and the Ka-Datu’s proud of their achievement, but also help inspire more people in your country and all over the world to explore their own limitless possibilities.” said Sobel.

Not only is this feat remarkable for gathering a large number of participants online, but also because of its symbolism. At a time when we are unable to gather physically, the Filipino resilience shines through by finding ways and means to celebrate as a community, even at a distance.
