BPI makes interbank transfers permanently free on mobile app, online banking, VYBE, BanKo, and BizKo

As part of its push for financial inclusion and in celebration of its 175th anniversary, the Bank of the Philippines Islands (BPI) announces that fund transfers to other banks and e-wallets via InstaPay and PESONet on the BPI app, online banking, VYBE, BanKo, and BizKo will be permanently free, effective July 1, 2026.

The move is also aligned with BSP Circular No. 1238, Series of 2026, which calls on BSPsupervised financial institutions to adopt reasonable and fair, marketbased pricing for persontoperson electronic fund transfers.

Previously, BPI app users were charged ₱10 for InstaPay transactions and ₱50 for PESONet transfers when sending funds through the BPI app. Transfers to other banks and e-wallets remain free for all verified VYBE users.

“As we mark our 175th year, BPI remains committed to removing barriers to financial access and making banking more inclusive for all Filipinos. Making interbank transfers free is a meaningful step toward enabling our customers to move their money more freely, while strengthening adoption of secure and convenient digital banking,” said BPI President and CEO TG Limcaoco.

“We expect this to drive more frequent use of digital transfers as customers no longer have to factor in per-transaction costs. It simplifies everyday payments and makes the BPI app an even more practical tool for managing finances,” he added.

The free interbank fund transfer initiative is expected to benefit more than 9.5 million BPI app enrolled users, enabling more cost-efficient and accessible digital transactions.

The waived fees apply to transactions of:

All existing BPI mobile app users, including both active and inactive customers
Clients under BPI Preferred, BPI Gold, BPI Private Wealth, and verified VYBE users who already enjoy free interbank fund transfers as part of their existing benefits

Offer Details

Zero fees for transfers to other banks and e-wallets
Applicable to InstaPay (real-time transfers) and PESONet (batch processing)
Available via BPI online banking, BPI app, BanKo, and BizKo
Effective July 1, 2026

App Update

In a related development, BPI customers will need to use the updated version of the mobile app by June 25. The app update includes minor fixes and performance improvements to further enhance the user experience.

Customers are encouraged to ensure their app is updated to the latest version, available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei AppGallery.

The removal of interbank transfer fees forms part of BPI’s broader strategy to drive digital adoption and enhance accessibility to financial services. By lowering transaction costs, the bank aims to encourage greater use of digital platforms for payments, remittances, and fund transfers.

The Asset Triple A Awards is a prestigious annual program recognizing excellence in banking, finance, and capital markets across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, highlighting institutions and deals that lead in sustainability, innovation, and digital experience.

BPI launches its new Debit Mastercard made from 100% recycled, PVCfree plastic—promoting more sustainable everyday banking.

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has launched its new Debit Mastercard made from 100% recycled, PVCfree plastic, reinforcing the bank’s push for more sustainable banking solutions.

The new Debit Mastercard is free for clients who open an account through a BPI branch, as well as for existing clients whose cards are nearing expiry or due for renewal. Clients who wish to switch to the new recycled, PVC-free card outside of their renewal schedule may do so for a standard Php 200 replacement fee.

BPI is among the leading issuers of debit cards in the country, with over 8.2 million debit cardholders nationwide. The launch of the new eco-friendly BPI Debit Mastercard makes another milestone in the bank’s drive to offer Filipinos more responsible and future-ready financial solutions.

“Reimagining the BPI Debit Mastercard to become an eco-friendly card is a testament to BPI’s commitment to its values of sustainability and innovation. At BPI, we want to connect more with our eco-conscious clients while also encouraging others to practice sustainable habits. Clients can request the new card through the BPI app or BPI online and selecting their preferred branch for pickup. A Php 200 fee applies to all card requests made through these digital channels. Cards are available for pickup at any BPI branch within two to six banking days, depending on location. Clients may also visit any branch for assistance.

Beyond sustainability, the card also features thoughtful design enhancements—including a curved notch at the bottom left corner that helps users identify and orient their card by touch, improving accessibility and making it easier to distinguish from other cards.

With the new card, BPI Debit Mastercard holders can continue to enjoy the trusted convenience and security they rely on—secure payments online, in-store, and abroad; contactless transactions; easy access to cash via ATMs worldwide; and 24/7 account control through the BPI app.

The much-anticipated BPI #BestLifeRun Corporate Race 2025 is officially opening its registration on March 1, 2025!

As the country’s first and only corporate-focused running event, this year’s race is set to be bigger and better, uniting professionals from various industries in the pursuit of fitness, camaraderie, and corporate wellness.

Now on its third year, the BPI #BestLifeRun Corporate Race continues to champion health and wellness in the workplace while reinforcing the collective commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. BPI app debuts on Huawei

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is providing Huawei users with more options to maximize their time and do convenient banking transactions through its mobile app now available on HUAWEI AppGallery.

Starting February 9, 2024, Huawei users can download the BPI app on the HUAWEI AppGallery and enjoy the convenience of mobile banking, anytime and anywhere. The BPI app allows users to access and manage their accounts, send money, pay bills, and more, all from the comfort of their mobile devices.

“Having the official BPI app on HUAWEI AppGallery allows users to enjoy all our features, enabling them to transact conveniently, efficiently, and securely wherever they are. This launch enables us to cater to more customers and continue to become their trusted financial partner. Our commitment is that the BPI app will keep getting better, so they can expect more improvements to serve their evolving needs,” said Fitzgerald Chee, Head of Consumer Platforms, BPI.

Aside from daily banking transactions, the BPI app enables cashless payments, allowing users to pay in stores and restaurants by scanning QR Ph codes. The app also provides top-notch security, as users can approve online transactions with Mobile Key, set transaction limits, and enable biometric authorizations, among others.

Huawei users can also do more with BPI through Track & Plan in the BPI app. This is a first-in-industry personal finance management feature that gives customers AI-powered insights based on their spending and saving habits. Unlike other apps, insights from BPI app's Track & Plan stems from their actual usage of the BPI app, making it more personalized and actionable. They can say goodbye to random financial tips that may not be applicable to them.

“By strengthening our digitalization efforts, we are able to reinvent customer interaction and experience. The availability of the BPI app on HUAWEI AppGallery demonstrates how BPI constantly works towards providing a convenient and secure daily-use financial app, and how the bank supports inclusive online banking for Filipinos,” Chee added.

The BPI app debuting on AppGallery is welcome news to HUAWEI’s 7 million customer base in the Philippines to date.

Keep the FLAMES burning this Valentine’s Day and protect yourself from scammers

Remember the FLAMES—Friends, Lovers, Anger, Marriage, Engagement (Enemy for some), Soulmates—game in the 90’s? It was a popular pen and paper pastime among young teens. They would name their ‘crush’ and be able to ‘predict’ their future by playing with the letters that make up the name.

Fast forward to this day and age, “FLAMES” can guide adults and teens alike. But this time on a more serious note.

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) presents a ‘FLAMES’ way—of protecting against scammers.

“No one can really predict when and how a scammer attacks. We must always be careful not to fall for their schemes,” said BPI Enterprise Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer Jonathan John B. Paz.

BPI’s ‘FLAMES’ reminder consists of simple cybersecurity tips that account holders can do to keep their accounts safe and secure especially this Valentine’s Day:

F-riends? Family? It is better to keep confidential details like your PINs and passwords a secret (even) from them.

L-ove to share your latest updates online? This is okay but be sure to set boundaries. Avoid oversharing, especially on social media, for your and your loved ones’ safety.

A-nger, excitement, and curiosity are some of the most common emotional trigger's scammers latch on to for their social engineering scams. Too much of these feelings can also be used as bait to manipulate you.

M-arriage between online and offline cybersecurity practices is a good habit to develop. It is not enough to be careful with your actions online only but not offline, and vice-versa.

E-ngage only with trusted accounts. When planning to use e-commerce, do background checks first and read reviews about the sellers or product. Legitimate Facebook pages have the blue verified badges on them.

S-oulmate? One-True Pair. Just like them, take care of your One-Time PINs (OTPs) as well by never sharing them with anyone.

BPI champions sustainability, launches electric vehicle for employees

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has leased a new electric vehicle (EV) unit in a bid to gradually replace its old gas-powered fleet vehicles and curtail its greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.

BPI has partnered with Global Electric Transportation (GET), a provider of EVs that use fast-charging lithium-ion batteries, to supply its new EV unit that will be used to provide free shuttle services for its employees travelling between BPI Buendia Center and MRT Buendia Station.

“In BPI, we believe that the first step to building a sustainable future is by starting within ourselves, within the organization,” said TG Limcaoco, BPI President and CEO. “We are excited to roll out a more environment-friendly and sustainable shuttle service for our employees. This forms part of our mission to help build a better Philippines—one family, one community at a time.”

The EV could potentially reduce the Bank’s diesel consumption by 30,000 liters per year, which in turn will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40,000 kilograms of CO2 per year.

“We are glad to see that more companies are pushing for the use of EVs and starting to realize its positive impact not only on the environment but also on their bottom line,” said Freddie Tinga, GET President. “We are happy to partner with BPI and support their sustainability initiatives through our sustainable transport solutions.”

BPI and GET executives host an inaugural ride of the electric vehicle.

The EV features a wider body and plenty of passenger room for 30 people compared with traditional shuttles that can only accommodate and ferry up to 15 passengers at a time.

In terms of social inclusivity, the EV has a wheelchair ramp that allows persons with disabilities (PWDs) to easily board and alight the vehicle. The ramp also allows easier boarding for people carrying bikes and other wheeled items.

The EV also harnesses an intelligent fleet management system, with features such as GPS tracking, route optimization, and maintenance alert which can be accessed through the GETPASS App.

The electric vehicle will provide free shuttle service to BPI employees commuting to and from MRT Buendia Station and BPI Buendia Center. Soon, it will add another stop at One Ayala Terminal.

The initiative mirrors BPI’s commitment to sustainability and continuous efforts to cultivate and entrench a sustainability mindset within the organization.

In 2023, BPI won 14 ESG-focused awards from foreign and Philippine award-giving bodies, including Finance Asia, Global Finance, The Asset, and Asiamoney. In 2022, the Bank also won 10 sustainability-themed awards.

BPI nurtures next generation of data science, AI talents

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) drew over 200 students from campuses nationwide to its recent Data, Analytics, Transformation, and AI (D.A.T.A.) Wave Summit Hackathon, part of its efforts to enhance the skills of Filipinos in the fields of data science and AI.

The event marked the culmination of the Philippine Junior Data Science Challenge (PJDSC), which was organized by the University of the Philippines’ Data Science Society in partnership with BPI. The PJDSC attracted more than 150 team registrations spanning 43 colleges from all over the country. The top 10 finalists received cash prizes and an opportunity to work as interns at the BPI data science team.

“In this era of rapid change, data and digital transformation are the keys to unlocking new avenues for banking. With the proper use of data, we can reach and serve more customers in pursuit of our vision to help build a better Philippines – one family, one community at a time,” said TG Limcaoco, BPI President and CEO.

Centered around the theme of financial inclusion, participating teams in the BPI D.A.T.A. Wave Summit Hackathon delved into data analysis using diverse synthetic datasets and designed a prototype product fitting for the requirement.

Additionally, the top three teams—Mapua University, Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao, and Ateneo de Manila University—showcased their projects in the summit, earning recognition for their outstanding performance in both challenges and ideation.

The summit featured different booths and activities where participants met like-minded peers.

In his speech, Eric Luchangco, BPI Chief Finance Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer, underscored the significance of data science in BPI’s aim to provide more Filipinos access to financial services.

“Financial inclusion is very important to BPI because it ties into the S of the ESG components under sustainability, or the Social aspect – making significant contributions to improving society. Data is the ultimate power tool for addressing this, enabling us to quickly understand the needs and behavior over a large number of people,” he said.

A pioneer of transformative banking technology in the Philippines, BPI remains committed to advancing digitalization to support students in expanding their knowledge, exploring best practices, and exchanging ideas on how data science can advance financial inclusion in the country.

BPI, GMA Network launch Anti-Scam PSA campaign

BPI, GMA Network, and GMA New Media Inc. launched an anti-scam campaign aimed at raising public awareness on cybersecurity. The project primarily involves the co-production of three dramatized public service announcements (PSAs) in video format depicting common cyber scams and how people can guard against fraudsters. The PSAs will be aired on GMA Network and its platforms as well as in BPI branches and social media channels. In photo are (from left): Jonathan John B. To help prevent people from falling into cyber scams, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), the first bank in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia, partnered with GMA Network, the country’s leading broadcast company, and its subsidiary, GMA New Media Inc. (NMI) to launch a public service announcement (PSA) campaign aimed at raising public awareness on cybersecurity.

BPI, GMA, and GMA NMI co-produced cybersecurity videos in the form of dramatized PSAs that show the ways fraudsters use common social engineering schemes to dupe people out of their money and the information that should never be shared with anyone to avoid being scammed.

Some hughlights during the event

According to Catherine P. Santamaria, BPI Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, “We hear the stories from family, friends and colleagues – these unfortunate experiences are the basis of the “Maging Listo, Wag Magpaloko” campaign. We all want to reduce cybercrime and protect against unauthorized exploitation of our systems, networks, and technology.”

“With this partnership, we hope to change the behavior of banking clients so that they become more vigilant against cyber scams and will never share any confidential information such as card security details, passwords, and One-Time PINs (OTPs) with anyone. We all share responsibility in keeping personal data safe, and this shared responsibility can only be sustained when we all work together,” said Jonathan John Paz, BPI Enterprise Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer.

For her part, Angela Javier Cruz, Vice President and Head of GMA Corporate Affairs and Communications said, “Along with the rise of electronic or digital channels, cyberattacks on retail customers using mobile and internet applications for their financial transactions have increased. As a media company, we see the need to conduct customer education campaigns against online scams and social engineering schemes such as phishing, smishing, and vishing.”

“With this partnership, we can arm individuals with ways to protect themselves from cyber threats and stay safe online and, in the long run, help create a culture of cybersecurity awareness that is essential in the digital age. It all starts with education,” Dennis Augusto L. Caharian, GMA New Media, Inc. President & Chief Operating Officer.

The Sparkle artists featured in the PSA campaign are Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco, comedian Betong Sumaya, versatile TV personality Maey Bautista, and Filipino actor and model Martin del Rosario.

The PSAs will air on GMA’s free-to-air channels GMA-7 and GTV; on its digital channels Heart of Asia and I Heart Movies; and on the Kapuso Network's digital platforms. BPI will showcase the PSAs on its official social media accounts and in its branches across the country.

BPI offers exclusive auto loan promos at Manila International Auto Show (MIAS)

Winning the race for faster and stronger car loan offerings, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is partnering once again with the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) as its exclusive auto financing provider, with the aim to cement its position as a top-of-mind financing provider for potential car buyers in the market.

After a successful comeback in 2022, MIAS returns on April 13 to 16, 2023 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

As the event’s official presenter and the exclusive auto loan provider on site, BPI will be present at the event to provide its services to MIAS’ consumer base.

“Given the anticipated increase in foot traffic, introduction of new car brands, and unveiling of new car variants, BPI Auto Loan aims to help dealers generate increase in turn-ins by offering exclusive promos. This enables starting families as well as car enthusiasts to avail affordable deals for the cars they are eyeing,” said Dennis Fronda, BPI Retail Loans Group Head.

As one of the best performing banks in the auto loan industry, BPI is optimistic that it will be able to help meet pent-up demand for vehicles.

“With the continuous recovery of the economy, BPI Auto Loan will again take hold of the opportunity to participate in this year’s MIAS run as the official presenter and exclusive auto loan provider,” Fronda added.

Users can get things done in fewer taps, with top transactions that are easier to access upon login and faster to finish. Help links are now found within transaction processes for easier access to guides and FAQs.

New clients can open a BPI #SaveUp account on the app within five minutes with just one ID. They can instantly start banking via the app.

Personal Finance Management (Coming in May)

BPI will be the first bank app to feature AI-powered tracking and insights. The app will offer financial advice, payment reminders, and actionable tips to help millions of Filipinos improve their financial wellness.

Other exciting features that are coming soon are mobile check deposit, real-time bill payment, cash withdrawal via QR, save favorite transactions, and more product applications.

Old to New

BPI Consumer Platforms Head Fitzgerald Chee pointed out that BPI Mobile app users do not have to delete their old app yet. “You can continue to log in the older BPI Mobile app with your current username and password. Users that want to start enjoying the new BPI app can find easy-to-follow guides on our Facebook and YouTube channels,” he said.

He also explained that QR codes generated on the older BPI Mobile app are still going to work on the new BPI app. “You can also view all your personalized settings, previous transactions, and statements right away on the new BPI app,” he noted, clarifying, “For your security, the Mobile Key works within the new BPI app or the older BPI Mobile app. Users can choose which app version to activate their Mobile Key.”

All these form part of the bank’s goal to further enable high-quality customer experiences in line with one of its core values to be a customer-centric organization. “Customers are looking for banks that can serve them well.
