CineGoma, now on its sixth year, continues to champion grassroots filmmaking by providing a platform for emerging creators—especially those from local communities—to showcase their work. This year’s edition highlights the theme of “Stories from the Ground,” focusing on narratives that reflect real-life experiences, social realities, and the resilient spirit of everyday Filipinos.

A short opening program welcomed the participants, featuring messages from organizers, local government representatives, and advocates of independent cinema. They emphasized the growing importance of supporting community filmmakers who use cinema not only as an art form but also as a powerful tool for advocacy, education, and social awareness.

Local artists and students also performed musical numbers, adding to the celebratory atmosphere including the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe.

As part of the kickoff, select short films were screened inside QCX, allowing guests to freely enjoy the showcase in a laid-back setting. Genres ranged from documentary to drama, and experimental film—each capturing unique perspectives shaped by local voices.

Workshops, panel talks, and training sessions are scheduled to follow in the coming weeks, aimed at equipping young creators with essential filmmaking skills. CineGoma’s organizers also announced upcoming collaborations with schools, youth groups, and local organizations to continue expanding the reach of the festival.

With the success of its opening day, the 6th CineGoma reinforces its mission to nurture the next generation of filmmakers and to spotlight stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and remembered. As the festival unfolds, attendees can expect more enriching activities and screenings that celebrate the heart of Filipino storytelling.
