Tuesday, May 27, 2025

Top-rated and award-winning Filipino program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) continues to bring honor to the country, winning a Bronze Tower Trophy at the 2025 New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for its investigative documentary “Minahan sa Homonhon Island” (Nickel and Dime: The Cost of Mining in Homonhon Island).

Aired on April 17, 2024, the episode examined the long-term environmental and social consequences of large-scale nickel mining on Homonhon Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Through compelling storytelling and field reporting, the piece spotlighted the plight of local communities amid extractive industrial activities.

“This year’s New York Festivals TV & Film Awards Grand Jury of award-winning producers, writers, journalists, editors, and filmmakers from around the globe judged wide-reaching, complex, innovative, and in-depth content from 43 countries,” said Rose Anderson, Executive Vice President & Executive Director of New York Festivals. “The exceptional entry by GMA Network demonstrates the power of storytelling and earned the NYF Bronze Tower Trophy for One at Heart, Jessica Soho: Nickel and Dime in the Environment & Ecology documentary category.”

This marks the fourth international win for KMJS from the prestigious New York Festivals—further proof that the program is not only top-rating but also globally acclaimed and award-winning.

Soho thanked the supporters of KMJS for this latest accolade.

Consistently a favorite among Filipino viewers, KMJS marked its 20th year in 2024 as the Philippines’ most-watched TV show both in Urban Philippines (NUTAM) and Total Philippines (PHINTAM) based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement data from January to December 2024.

In April this year, it also tallied a combined (GMA and GTV) people rating of 14.99 percent in NUTAM (equivalent to a projected 6.5 million viewers) and a combined people rating of 13.02 percent in PHINTAM (equivalent to a projected 9.3 million viewers). This underscores the show’s unmatched reach, relevance, and impact in storytelling and ratings.
