Khalil Ramos and Ashley Ortega Stars in As If It's True, Cinemalaya 2023 Full-Length Film Entry
Friday, July 28, 2023It's the time of the year again when we look forward to an amazing line up of all original Filipino films from CINEMALAYA Philippine Independent Film Festival.
For this year, a first for Cinemalaya, they will be showcasing a Rom-Com film starring Khalil Ramos and Ashley Ortega.
The film evolves around Gemma Stone who is a social media influencer/content creator who's burning out from trying to maintain the interest of her followers. She meets James, a struggling musician suffering from depression. They enter into a relationship with the mutual intent to capitalize on the other. Gemma uses James for content by presenting him as a perfect aspirational romantic partner, while James leeches off Gemma's wealth and connections to further his own music career.

As If It's True is directed by JOHN ROGERS, a freelance video editor and writer. He is one of the writers for the streaming television series Lyric and Beat on iWantTFC. His short film Dana Jung was part of the 2019 Sinag Maynila film festival short film selection.
But, as time passes, their intentions don't pan out as they expect and a blur forms between real love and exploitation.
When it comes to professionalism, Khalil and Ashley has been very good at doing it. For the record, both of them have been paired with different on screen partners and nailed it even though they're not a love team. Ashley recently starred in GMA Network's Teleserye 'Hearts on Ice' with Xian Lim and it was a success while Khalil, even though he is currently dating Gabbi Garcia, he can freely be paired with anyone and do a great job on it. They're both very collaborative and supportive to one another which is why this project turned out a memorable one for both of them.
Ashley mentioned during the media conference that it was her dream to do a Cinemalaya film and when she learned that she will be working with Khalil, no questions asked, she excitedly said yes to do it because she knows for a fact that she will learn a lot from Khalil whom she regard as a very good actor. She added that 2023 has been a very blessed year for her and she couldn't ask for more. She is thankful to all her supporters for always being there since day one.
Khalil is also in a very hectic and busy schedule for 2023, aside from being part of this year's Cinemalaya, he will also be part of a theatrical production entitled," Tick Tick Boom!" which will run from August 5-27 at Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Theater. This is a first for him and although it's challenging, he wanted to try different skills that will test his talent as an actor and singer as well. He also loves his role as James in "As if it's True" because he is a struggling singer in this film and at some point in his life, he can relate to James. He is grateful for all the support he is getting especially with his girlfriend Gabbi who, he wishes to marry someday but not yet soon because he added, they're both very young and would still want to mark their own names in the industry.
