Some people can’t get enough of scary movies. They’ve seen scores of scary films – over and over. They catch horror films on opening night  and even here in the Philippines, movies that feature zombies, elementals, ghosts and the like and possession is a big thing. Horror films in the Philippine cinema have been a big hit even in the early 70's and the 80's. No wonder that up until now, we still love watching horror films even though it's not Halloween.

This is why FOX is about to make everyone jump to their seats and scream on top of your lungs in their first ever horror film MALEDICTO.  Home to the most popular series and Hollywood movies, FOX is about to delight viewers yet again with their newest must-watch.

Fox Networks Group Philippines is poised to give us a good scare with its first ever locally-produced horror film Maledicto, set to show in cinemas nationwide this coming May 1.

Co-produced by Cignal, Entertainment and Unitel, and directed by Mark Melly, Maledicto is a chilling tale that will surely get under your skin.

Present during the MALEDICTO Bloggers Conference were Tom Rodriguez, Inah De Belen, Palanca-winning writer Jonathan Guillermo and Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX Networks Group Philippines,
Jude Turcuato

Senior Vice President and General Manager of FOX Networks Group Philippines, Jude Turcuato, shares his excitement for the upcoming film:

''Maledicto is a really big feat for FNG, being the first ever film we've produced locally, with an all-Filipino cast at that. With Maledicto under our belt, we're hoping to elevate Filipino cinema to one of a Hollywood pedigree."

“First, the word ‘Maledicto’ means ‘to talk badly,’” Turcuato said. “The film centers on how people get possessed, what happens during the possession, and how the demons are cast out.”

Cignal Entertainment President & CEO Jane Basas shares the same sentiment and said, "With Maledicto, we hope to offer a different flavor of horror to Filipino viewers who deserve a better and more exciting offering from this genre. Aside from its unique and thought-provoking story, the audience will also be on the edge of their seats with Maledicto's Hollywood-level set production and special effects."

Maledicto stars Tom Rodriguez as Father Xavi, a former psychologist who becomes a skeptical exorcist following the tragic death of his sister, Mara (played by Inah de Belen). He meets Sister Barbie (played by Jasmine Curtis-Smith), a young nun who has the gift of charism. Together, they face the case of Agnes (Miles Ocampo), a seemingly perfect teenager who starts manifesting demonic behaviour that rocks the foundations of the church.

Other cast members include Eric Quizon, Martin Escudero, Franco Laurel, Nonie Buencamino, Liza Lorena, and Menggie Cobarrubias.

Tom Rodriguez shares experience on portraying the role of Father Xavi in Maledicto.

Inah De Belen shares her experience in portraying the role of Mara, a possessed lady in Maledicto. She also shared some of the challenges and preparations she did in portraying the role and how challenging it is to portray it.

The lead actors have also expressed enthusiasm on being part of FOX's first film, saying it was an opportunity to play roles that stray from the norm of romance and loveteams. They have happily accepted the challenge, and are excited to bring the characters to life.

Turcuato adds, "We have always prided ourselves in creating original content that would speak to our audience on a personal level, and I feel that Maledicto will do just that, because faith and belief are things that are innate in almost everyone. More than a horror movie, it is an invitation to look inside ourselves and assess what we truly believe in. We hope that this film will offer a fresh perspective."

Fox PH spent the past two years or so sifting through around 100 script submissions, before finally choosing “Maledicto,” which was penned by Palanca-winning writer Jonathan Guillermo.
