Derrick Monasterio and Barbie Forteza stars in Almost a Love Story showing on April 11

I'm sure most of us, at one point in our lives have experienced an "Almost a Love Story". This is that one special moment when everything feels so right but at the end of the day it's either you or that special someone isn't really "The One" and circumstances triggered it not to be a love story after all or maybe not, maybe not now, maybe in the future.
During the Bloggers Conference of the movie "Almost a Love Story", I was able to meet the lead cast which is the newest love team of GMA Network - #DerBie Derrick Monasterio and Barbie Forteza.
This is not the first time that Derrick and Barbie have worked together, both the Kapuso stars have worked together in several Kapuso shows like Tween Hearts, Luna Blanca, Half Sisters and their newest teleserye Inday will always love you which will be airing soon via GMA 7.
Meet the cast of Almost a Love Story
The movie tackles the theme of “long distance relationship” between childhood friends Baneng and Luigi had. It was Baneng’s OFW mom (played by Lotlot de Leon who was taking care of the Luigi in Italy) who was instrumental in making love blossom between the two. In the story, both Baneng and Luigi have the inclination for the arts that also drew them together.

Almost a Love Story is produced by BG Productions which is also the producer of Barbie's award winning film "Laut" that made her win a Best Actress title in the 36th Fantasporto International Film Festival at Oporto, Portugal. According to Barbie, she didn't think twice in accepting this movie offer because it's from BG Productions and it'll be directed by Louie Ignacio but at the time she didn't know that she will be paired with Derrick Monasterio.
Because they've known each other for quite some time, it can’t be helped that they developed feelings for each other. Derrick courted Barbie and the young lady nearly said yes to the Kapuso hunk. Derrick said he was 5 points away from getting Barbie’s coveted yes but some things didn’t work, so the romance was “Almost A Love Story,” to borrow the title of their newest movie. It was Barbie who shared that Derrick courted her twice.
On her part, Barbie recalled with fondness the time that Derrick courted her. “I felt that he was really serious in courting me but we were still too young then, What is important now is we have become close with one another and I am really comfortable with him. Derrick and I are super close and if there’s a need for us to be sweet in a scene, we just do it. It is effortless on our part. There’s no need to act it out,” said Barbie.
Derrick and Barbie shared some fond and treasured moments together, while Derrick didn't win her heart, twice, both of them shared a friendship that will not be easily swayed, they trust each other much and they even give each other advice too.
But, was it easier for them to be paired as a love team given the circumstances that they didn't end up with each other and they're also close friends to begin with?
The cast also shared their memorable experience on working with Direk Louie Ignacio, all of them learned something new from Direk and they also shared how meticulous and detailed he is when it comes to creating a film.
“Almost A Love Story” has two theme songs, the first one is recored by Derrick and Barbie "Somebody like you" and another from Ice Seguerra. Italy was definitely their first choice for the movie setting, it was shot last December (sometime before Christmas) at Salento, in Tricase which is part of Southern Italy. The production team behind “Almost A Love Story” made sure that audience will feel the love and kilig, and will be touched as well, by the story of Barbie and Derrick. It’s a plus factor that the beautiful place of Salento became the backdrop of the love story of the two lead stars. BG Productions International of Ms. Baby Go spent a fortune to make “Almost A Love Story” a perfect movie for Barbie and Derrick.
