Hukad sa Golden Cowrie: Cebu's Finest Opens First Luzon Branch at Trinoma Mall, Quezon City

I've been to Cebu for 2 times already and I must say during my stay there and doing round of city tours, Cebuanos are the ultimate food lovers. If their lechon was not enough then there must be something wrong with your taste buds if my statement was not good enough for you. I have a lot of Cebuano friends and I once told how amazingly innovative Cebuanos are when it comes to cooking. They’ve always found a way to make a common dish more appealing and tasty. The prices are almost always affordable too.

Thankfully I don't need to go that far if ever I miss a Cebuano inspired dish. Just in the heart of Quezon City, Hukad sa Golden Cowrie which is a famous restuarant in the Visayas region opened it's first ever branch in the upper region. Located at Trinoma Mall in Quezon City, the Cebu-grown brand promises to provide a real feast experience!

For 33 years, Cebu’s homegrown restaurant Golden Cowrie and Hukad have been part of families’ celebrations. Consequently, these restaurants being managed by one of Cebu’s restaurant empires, Hukad and Golden Cowrie, rose to become a culinary destination for both local and international tourists.

Hukad/Golden Cowrie has become VisMin’s go-to restaurant for Filipino comfort food. Highlighting on regional fares, such as Cebu’s famous lechon, and other truly Filipino tastes plus the offering of unlimited rice, Hukad and Golden Cowrie signifies the purely Pinoy salu-salo that is never short on delectable food.

Before we start the food trip, how did they end up using the name "Hukad", Hukad means limitless serving of food or to limitless serve food on one's plate. Everyone have the option to have unlimited rice with their order, they also get the native feel since every plate is lined with Banana leaves. 

The interior lives up to its native ambiance, I love how homey it feels which is why it is perfect to invite group of friends, family and office mates to satisfy their cravings. 
The interior designer is Ms. Hannah Lim of HL Designs.  The ceiling which mirrors tree branches playfully resembles a jigsaw puzzle and the very remarkable thing about their interior design is their puso-shaped lamps inspired by rice-wrapped and boiled in a casing of woven coconut leaves typical served during meals in Cebu. 

The coco shells, crushed bamboo and laminate details seen all around showcases Cebuano craftsmanship and ingenuity. Hukad sa Golden Cowrie can accommodate up to 98 dine-in guests and it also has a function room that can fit in 24 persons.

We also got the chance to make our own candle with shells as the base of each candle.
 It also smells really good.

Taking a deep breath now while typing my review because just by looking at all the pictures above makes me really hungry and it all tasted really good. Of course for me the star of the day is still the Crispy Pata which is also the best seller together with the city's best delicacy -Lechon Belly. The Pomelo salad is a must-try because it is really delicious, I love the combination of pomelo and crispy grilled squid! Since I am also a fan of sisig, vegetarian sisig is something new to me and I also love the Balut sisig although I highly recommend for you to eat here in groups so that you can enjoy and taste the best of everything they can offer.

The Agua Fresca drink is simply refreshing, perfect combination with the gastronomical experience you'll have once you started eating at Hukad sa Golden Cowrie. 

Estra rice please? because trust me, you will have an extra rice even double serving too.

Hukad sa Golden Cowrie only describes how a meal with your loved ones would be. Meals at their restaurant are synonymous to great food, family celebrations, fun and having great conversations while enjoying good food.
