Quezon City 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary Schedule & a Tour at Quezon Heritage House

Wednesday, October 07, 2015

There's a lot of reason why living at Quezon City truly rocks and if you don't live in Quezon City, let me give you a heads up why QUEZON CITY is one of the best cities in the country.

Quezon City is the largest  city of Metropolitan Manila. It also has the biggest population. There are a lot of shrines and historical monuments in Quezon City like the People Power Monument at the corner of White Plains, the Cry of Pugad Lawin Shrine, Melchora Aquino Shrine, The Boy Scouts Rotonda, monuments of Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio at Quezon City Hall compound, Ninoy Aquino at Quezon Ave. and Gen. Licerio Geronimo at Brgy. Bagong Silang.

This only prves that Quezon City pays homage to the heroes who fought for freedom to inspire all of us to bring honor and pride to our city and our country. Not only that, Quezon City is also home of historical landmarks that travels us back in time where remarkable people in our history made a wonderful journey.

I am privileged and thankful that I am one of the Bloggers who got the chance to tour one of the famous landmark and historical site in Quezon City which is the Quezon Heritage House located at Quezon City Memorial Circle.

The Quezon City government, desirous of preserving and protecting the City's heritage, signed a memorandum of Agreement with the heirs of President Quezon, represented by the brothers Manuel, Benjamin, and Ricky Quezon-Avecena for the transfer of the original Quezon House at 45 Gilmore St. to its new location at QMC.

Upon climbing the stairs you will be welcomed by this spacious area where antique furniture are well preserved and maintained.

It was the only remaining property of the Quezons' which remains standing after they came home during the Second World War. It is in the living room where Dona Aurora held meetings to conceive what became the Philippine Red Cross.

In a tour on the second floor of the heritage house, you will see some  some of the things personally used by President Quezon, like his big American boots, fishing rod, clothing, big narra bed, baggage and even the recipe of his favorite food – Cocido Español.

The visitors can also see some of the things that the former President’s family had used, like the bed and clothing of Doña Aurora, along with some of the objects given to them by family friends, like cabinets, mirrors, and plant boxes.

You can also see the bed used by Quezon while he was being taken care of by his nurse. It was located in the middle of the room of Quezon and his wife and was connected to a comfort room.

The tour guide explained that the couple had to use separate beds because during that time (1920s), when they transferred to the vacation house, the President was already sick of tuberculosis and under treatment.

The house was chosen by the President to recuperate from his illness because the environment provided him with a way to breath fresh air.

Also inside the heritage house is a LED TV set where one can view how was life from 1901 to 1920s and some of the memories and photos of Quezon’s family, like his wife and four children, as part of the enrichment of the minds of the visiting tourists.

The Quezon Heritage House is historically significant because it is associated to the lifestyle and health of the Philippine Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon. The only residence in the city he founded. The reflects the country /rehabilitation house architecture of the American period and the family life of the former President.

The tour guide said that anyone can feel free to visit the heritage house and there is no fee required. It is open to the public from Tuesdays to Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
