Sineng Pambansa Horror plus Film Festival 2014

The Film Development Council of the Philippines, in partnership with SM Cinema, will present the Sineng Pambansa Horror plus Film Festival, which opens on October 29, 2014 and will run until November 4 in all SM Cinema branches nationwide. The entrance fee will be at regular admission prices.
Following Sineng Pambansa’s basic mission to support and produce high quality films made by Filipino filmmakers to bring to the wider Filipino public, the Horror plus Film Festival will feature four films directed by master Filipino directors that are horror—and more. All the films feature Filipino folklore as well as a unique mix of various film genres with traditional horror.
The films participating in the festival include “T’yanak” by co-directors Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes, “Hukluban” by director Gil Portes, “Bacao” by director Edgardo Vinarao, and “Sigaw sa Hatinggabi” by director Romy Suzara.
The dynamic co-director duo Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes have directed over twenty titles together, including the classic “Magic Temple,” which won Best Director at the 1996 Metro Manila Film Festival, and the more recent “Sonata,” which was part of the 2013 Sineng Pambansa All-Masters Film Festival and took awards at the 2014 Gawad Urian Awards and Star Awards for Movies. For this year’s Horror plus Filmfest, Direks Peque and Lore has brought to life once again “T’yanak,” a remake of their 1988 horror classic. The remake features an all A-list cast, starring Judy Ann Santos in the leading role, Solenn Huessaff, Tom Rodriguez, and Sid Lucero. “T’yanak” is a chilling story about a seemingly innocent but mysterious infant who transforms into a hideous creature that terrorizes the lives of those in his small village.
Master and local international award-winning director Gil Portes brings his newest film “Hukluban” to the silver screen, starring the fresh faced duo Krista Miller and Kiko Matos. “Hukluban” is the story of Mira, a young and beautiful but enigmatic woman with the vibe of an old soul. She bears a secret curse, romancing three men in different eras in search of true love that may break the spell that binds her. Direk Gil is known for his many unforgettable titles including “Miss X,” “Merika,” “Markova,” and “GATAS…Sa Dibdib ng Kaaway.”
Veteran director and editor Edgardo Vinarao holds many laurels from the FAMAS Awards, Metro Manila Film Festival, FAP Awards, Gawad Urian Awards for directing and editing during the span of his career. After winning the Sineng Pambansa Genre Scriptwriting competition last year, Vinarao’s “Bacao” has been made into a film for this year’s Horror plus Filmfest. “Bacao” stars Michelle Madrigal, Arnold Reyes, Marife Necesito, and Alvin Anson. The story revolves around Mayet, an enchanting young woman from the barrio whose flourishing romance with her husband is mysteriously connected to the fertility of their village’s soil for growing corn. However, when she herself cannot fulfill her desire to get pregnant, her marriage and her sanity are stretched to the limit.
Applauded and award-winning “Maestro” director Romy Suzara, best known for his remarkable titles “Pag-ibig na walang dangal,” “Mga uod at rosas,” and “Pepeng Shotgun” among the 58 films he has directed, will haunt audiences with his newest film “Sigaw sa Hatinggabi.” The film is told in a “Big Brother”-esque setting where, in an old house, a documentary TV production crew records a “spirit questers” group as they investigate a high-profile murder allegedly committed by a ghost. The cast includes Regine Angeles, Richard Quan, Afi Africa, Vangie Labalan, Chanel Latorre, David Karell, Alvin Anson, and Paloma.
This year’s entries to the first ever Horror plus Film Festival stretch the limits of horror, just in time for Halloween weekend. The festival screenings extension and the individual Gala Premiere of each film will be announced in the coming weeks.
