VIGAN CITY: Vote Vigan for the New 7 Wonders Cities

VIGAN is a very special place and it holds a very special place in my heart as well because it is where the roots of my father came from.
UNESCO deemed it a World Heritage Site and noted, “Vigan is an exceptionally intact and well-preserved example of a European trading town in East and Southeast Asia. The architecture is truly reflective of its roots in both materials and design, in its fusion of Asian building design and construction with European colonial architecture and planning.”
On 2 December 1999, the Historic City of Vigan, a municipality then was inscribed in the World Heritage List which now includes 630 cultural and natural properties of exceptional universal value in 158 States Parties or countries that have adhered to the Convention.
Vigan boasts structures that will make you feel like you're traveling back in time, it's like being part of the backdrop where each structure makes you understand what lies beyond the history of the place.
There are so many amazing and beautiful places to visit in Vigan and one day is not enough to check out the historical sites and the landmarks that goes beyond the magnificent sites.
Aside from beautiful places, attractive and unique antique furniture, decors and the local fabric ''Abel,'' and other Iloko products and delicious food delicacies produced from this world's well-known heritage city of the country Vigan should also look out for. If ever you visit Vigan you shouldn't miss out on this wonderful things before you leave or if ever you want to to leave: the famous antique furniture of Ilocos Region, attractive souvenir items and the ever famous Iloko clothing - ''Abel,'' the unique burnay (jars) and Vigan tiles, and the delicious food delicacies such as bagnet (crispy pig's rind), longganisa (native sausage), Bibingka Paskua (native rice cake), miki (native noodles), empanada, locally cooked sinanglao and okoy, among others.
Just last week, My Mom cooked the Vigan Pancit inspired Malunggay miki noodles with Bagnet! And I can assure it was the best Pancit I've tasted in my life simply because the Bagnet made it even more juicy and flavorful. The ingredients we used came straight from Vigan which is why the the taste made it even more delectable and authentic. The Vigan Longganisa has always been my favorite as well since I love garlic and their longganisa is just perfect! Just thinking about it makes me hungry!
Vigan in Ilocos Sur has advanced to the next round of an international search for the world's new seven wonder cities, the organizers disclosed this week.
New7Wonders Cities said Vigan is among the 21 finalists voted through to the next round of the campaign.
Aside from Vigan, the 20 other official finalists are Bangkok, Barcelona, Beirut, Chicago, Doha, Durban, Havana, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, La Paz, London, Mendoza, Mexico City, Mumbai, Perth, Quito, Reykjavik, Saint Petersburg, Seoul, and Shenzhen.
New7Wonders Foundation founder-president Bernard Weber said the diversity of the remaining cities is “remarkable in terms of regional geography and urban culture.”
Weber lauded those involved in the individual city campaigns, and praised the voters for contributing to the success of the New7Wonders Cities initiative.
The New7Wonders Foundation also started the New7Wonders of Nature initiative from 2007 to 2011. Another Philippine location, the Puerto Princesa Underground River, was named to the list.
Filipinos and tourists who have experienced the beauty of Vigan may want to vote for it in the penultimate voting stage that will run until Oct. 7.
