Adopt a Dog from the PAWS Animal Shelter

PAWS spokesperson Heart Evangelista encourages everyone looking for a pet to make adoption your first option. Adopt a homeless dog or cat from the PAWS Animal Shelter.
I totally support this. In our home, we've adopted a lot of stray cats in our neighborhood and up until now, we totally love taking care of them. :)
Let's all take a minute and read some of the important reminders of PAWS:
A lot of people contact PAWS and say that "Ipapaampon ko sa inyo ang pusa/aso ko"
(I am bringing my pet to PAWS for adoption) but we correct the statement by saying that these pet guardians are not "adopting out" their pets to us. They are, in fact, abandoning their own dogs or cats to PAWS and making the job of volunteer animal advocates more difficult.
Taking in abandonments takes us away from our efforts in rescuing animals in distress or educating more people about responsible pet guardianship.
The PAWS shelter is exclusively for animals in distress. An “animal in distress” is one that is suffering or is in imminent danger of losing its life.
Not all animals in distress can be taken in at a given time due to the limited space & number of caretakers in our shelter and due to our strict quarantine protocols.
PLEASE READ PAWS' ADMISSION POLICIES BELOW:
3 THINGS PAWS CAN DO TO HELP OWNERS KEEP THEIR PETS
1. counselling pet owners/guardians on the ff: spay or neuter (to prevent reproduction, improve aggressive behavior), allergies/fear of communicable diseases and remedies, and what to do to make landlords, neighbors, barangay or family members more accepting of the animals
2. offer training classes - to manage/address behavioral problems
3. offer low cost veterinary service & spay/neuter surgery
What PAWS can do to help pet owners, WHO HAVE EXHAUSTED EFFORTS ABOVE, find a good home for their pets:
REHOMING ASSISTANCE - this will be through advertising in existing social networking sites provided your pets meet the ff. criteria:
1. Pet owner has tried his best efforts in rehoming the animal with friends and other relatives
2. The animal is "kapon" or neutered (males) or spayed (females). Please provide the name and contact info of the veterinarian who did the neutering
3. The animal has no illness.*
4. The animal has no behavior problem.*
* #3 and #4 must first be addressed by the owner. Note: Owner has to treat the animal at his own expense or put efforts in behavior rehabilitation before expecting that an animal can be successfully rehomed. He should not expect a charity organization to subsidize this expense as the organization is already trying to help him out with advertising and screening of potential adopters for his pet on top of its regular work for numerous animals in need.
PAWS' rehoming assistance is also available for good samaritans who have rescued strays or injured dogs/cats from the streets. We ask that rescuers foster or temporarily keep the animal until space opens up at the quarantine section of the shelter or until a home can be found.
For those qualified and are availing of rehoming assistance, please email philpaws@yahoo.com with full details and a photo of your pet. Note that the dog/cat will remain in the pet owner's home and will go straight to the adopter's home (the dog/cat will not wait at the PAWS shelter).
