From a Day’s Work to a Family’s Future: Grab and MOVE IT Partners Share How Earnings and Enabling Programs Lift Households

Grab Philippines Friday, September 26, 2025

Across Philippine cities, GrabCar driver-partners, MOVE IT rider-partners, and GrabFood delivery-partners are showing how everyday work can power extraordinary progress. That arc — from hustle to upward mobility — takes center stage in a special episode of Paano Ba ’To: The Podcast, where three partners, joined by their families, trace how viable earnings on the road — paired with enabling programs — are helping them pay for school, steady the household, and invest for the long term.

Three families, three paths to progress

Issei Goto — “You don’t win unless you place a bet.”

A former office worker, Issei left salaried life in 2019 to drive with GrabCar. Within months he scaled from one to four vehicles, helped by GrabFinance Cash Loan with flexible terms aligned to his earnings — turning a leap of faith into stable, higher income for a young family. “Hindi ka mananalo kung hindi ka tataya,” he says, reflecting on that choice.

Lilybeth Zerna — Delivering toward bigger dreams.

Lilybeth’s discipline and determination as a GrabFood delivery-partner—through heat, rain, and traffic—funded her children’s schooling and, with GrabFinance Cash Loan, the staged construction of a six-storey apartment that now provides steady rental income. “When you really want something, you learn to sacrifice,” she says.

Marlo Gonzales — A father’s sacrifice, a daughter’s promise.

For MOVE IT rider-partner Marlo, every trip is about his family’s future. His daughter Genille earned a full scholarship through GrabScholar (Wave 3)—covering tuition, supplies, and a monthly allowance—so she can focus fully on school. “Proud po ako sa anak ko,” Marlo shares. Genille adds: “My goal is to give back everything my parents poured into me.”

Fueling Hard Work with Opportunity and Support

Household stability: Consistent, app-based earnings help families weather shocks—while flexible financing prevents debt spirals.

Mobility through education: Scholarships ease the burden of tuition, letting students—and parents—focus on outcomes, not obstacles.

Pathways to assets: Sensibly structured loans convert income into productive assets (vehicles, rental units) that build resilience over time.

Asenso Programs Shine Through the Stories of Issei, Lilybeth, and Marlo

GrabFinance Cash Loan: Flexible, earnings-linked financing that gives driver-partners quick access to the lifelines they need to grow and manage their livelihoods.

GrabScholar: A full-ride scholarship that covers tuition, school supplies, and a monthly allowance for the deserving dependents of Grab and MOVE IT partners — also open to the public for qualified applicants.

Ka-Grab / Ka-MOVE IT Rewards: Incentive programs that boost take-home pay and celebrate partners who consistently deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality service.

A Superapp as Wingman: Grab Helps Thousands of Filipinos with Valentine’s Day Plans

Grab Monday, March 04, 2024

Delivering on its promise of safe, reliable, and value-driven transportation and on-demand deliveries, Grab proved to be an effective wingman for Filipinos last Valentine’s Day. Thousands of Filipino couples relied on GrabCar, GrabFood and GrabMart to create their own unique and special kilig celebrations.

This Feb-ibig trend enabled the leading superapp to fulfill its highest number of bookings for GrabCar in 2024. Furthermore, GrabFood and GrabMart have both completed record-high number of orders since their respective launches in the Philippines, observing a significant increase in demand not only in Metro Manila but also in cities beyond the capital on February 14, 2024.

Grab Philippines Chief Operating Officer Ronald Roda emphasized Grab’s unique position as a leading superapp and its capacity to meet consumer demand for above-par services. “It is a rare opportunity for a company to be a part of thousands of stories being created by consumers. To be able to power plans around special moments is a responsibility we gladly take. And we fulfill this by leveraging our state-of-the-art technology and platform, and expansive ecosystem of merchants-, delivery-, and driver-partners – empowering every consumer to grab the day with every meal delivered and destination reached,” Roda notes.

To Pag-Ibig and Beyond: Going Around with Pangga Safely and Conveniently

Romance was not only in the air – it was on the road, too. Filipinos were out and about more last Valentine’s Day. This was demonstrated by a sustained peak in demand throughout Valentine’s week for Grab’s transport services. Among those who booked a GrabCar on Heart’s Day is X-user S, who joins the league of couples with dating-app success stories after capping off the night with a safe and convenient ride home with Grab.

Grab has just recently made its ride-hailing services accessible to more Filipinos with the launch of GrabCar Saver, a more affordable transport option on the Grab app. For a slightly longer waiting time, GrabCar Saver passengers can enjoy fares that are up to 15% cheaper than a regular GrabCar ride.

Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice: On-Demand Kilig Dining

The recent Grab Food & Grocery Trends Report revealed that Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest holidays on the Grab platform, with a peak in demand continuing for up to five days following the actual holiday. Sweets and pastry shops on GrabFood were in for a [sugar] rush as top orders on the platform were cupcakes, whole cakes, ice cream and desserts, and baked goods and pastries. GrabMart also played a crucial role in keeping the romance alive by meeting the high demand for top orders such as flowers, meat, wine, and homeware.

Grab’s Dine-In feature has also experienced a surge in voucher purchases on Valentine’s Day. Serving as a digital foodie guide, Dine-In effectively helps customers in discovering restaurants within their vicinity, while also providing them a suite of exclusive discounts that they can claim during their actual dine-in transaction. “It’s easier and more convenient to turn plans into actual dates through superapps like Grab – not to mention the cost-effectiveness it offers. With the savings I got through Dine-In, I was able to make my date with my partner more special by adding a few more additional twists to our celebration,” shares college student Pat.

In addition to the reliability and efficiency of its platform, the increased demand on Grab is also attributed to its viral video that highlights some real-life experiences of those who rely on superapps. The video, titled "Kwento Mo, Gawin Nating Totoo" garnered over 30 million views and 500,000 social engagement – a reflection of its strong resonance with Filipino viewers. The online video, which was produced with award-winning creatives agency Gigil, illustrates how Grab serves as an effective partner in making things possible for every Filipino moment maker, helping them overcome challenges such as the need for instant gifts and last-minute planning.

GrabCar First and Only Transport Network Company Legalized by the Philippine Government

Grab Car application Wednesday, July 08, 2015

GrabCar, the private hire vehicle booking service available through the GrabTaxi app, is the first and only service of its kind in the Philippines to be fully accredited as a Transportation Network Company (TNC) by the Land Transportation Franchising & Regulatory Board (LTFRB) .

Natasha Bautista, Head of GrabCar Philippines, said this GrabCar accreditation validates the company’s efforts in providing the safest and most convenient rides for passengers in the Philippines.

“With full accreditation, more Filipino commuters will be able to use GrabCar and be confident that we offer a legitimate and safe private hire service. We will now focus on rapidly expanding our GrabCar service to serve more passengers across the Philippines,” said Bautista.

“Our GrabCar accreditation by LTFRB is a historical occasion. We commend the Philippine government for collaborating with our team to revolutionize transport in the Philippines through the development of game-changing regulations that champion innovation and public safety for society,” she added.

First and only legal service

When GrabCar first entered the market, the service operated on par with the current industry standards. In May 2015, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) announced that it would create a new classification to accommodate mobile app-based booking services. On July 3rd, GrabCar became the first company to complete all the requirements and receive full accreditation as a TNC.

The requirements for TNC accreditation include: business permit, certificate of registration duly issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), business model proposal with proposed fare rates and service charges, and complaint mechanism against vehicle owners and drivers.

Safety remains top priority

“The stringent safety and training process we’ve implemented since day one has ensured that GrabCar complies with the new TNC regulations seamlessly and can be the first to be fully accredited by LTFRB. We are committed to screening and training our GrabPeer drivers for GrabCar in full compliance with the TNVS accreditation requirements set by LTFRB. In fact, we’re working with our Regional Head of Safety and the LTFRB to consistently ensure that our screening and safety measures are of the highest standard possible,” said Bautista.

“GrabCar has been very collaborative. Since day one of operations, they have been working closely with us to ensure that the policy on TNCs prioritizes passenger safety. We are happy to announce that GrabCar has already been accredited upon meeting all government requirements, and we are positive that this will revolutionize the Philippine transportation industry," said Roberto Cabrera, LTFRB Executive Director.

GrabCar aims to complement the current transportation options in the country and provide passengers with another safe and affordable ride option. GrabCar believes that with full accreditation by the Philippine government, TNCs will be able to provide a fast, safe and convenient transport option for passengers.

Celebrate GrabCar’s Accreditation

To celebrate its full accreditation by the Philippine government, GrabCar is giving away an unlimited P100 discount on all GrabCar and GrabCar+ rides! Just use the promo code LEGALLYGRAB on every booking from July 7 to July 21, 2015.

Also, GrabCar celebrated their anniversary with the media at Black Olive, Capitol Commons with good food and a Q&A about the latest updates about GrabCar and other promos they are giving the public.
